I left today's discussion with the question ringing in my head of, "if we believe that we have problems with institutional racism and believe that we therefore can't trust the professionalism of the police to maintain order, then who do we look to?" ironically, shortly thereafter, a friend posted a link to this blog about the potential problems of vigilante culture rising in the U.S. It struck me as an interesting juxtaposition of thoughts for the day.
